The concept of immortality, a subject that has captivated humanity for centuries — from ancient myths to modern scientific pursuits — may mesmerize you once again as you explore the possibility of an eternal existence.

Today, though, quantum theory gives us a glimpse of how consciousness may not die after all, but rather be preserved forever. This radical notion rests on the principles of quantum physics and the functions of the human brain.

Death, in its technical sense, is the irreversible stopping of any and all brain functions, also known as brain death. Once attained, the terminal state is viewed as the final end of life. But what if science could bring back these brain functions?

Might we, then, gain immortality? It probably doesn’t sound as far-fetched as it seems. It depends on quantum mechanics’ ability to explain and control life’s very substrates.

Both past and present will combine to achieve this vision through an experiment. An American, Robert White, a neurosurgeon, attempted something like a groundbreaking experiment: he transplanted the head of one monkey onto the body of another.

Unfortunately, the experiment was a failure, and the monkey did not survive long. This result…
